The work commissioned to Manuela Kerer, Toteis , reconstructs the unusual story of Viktoria Savs. Born in Merano in 1899, Viktoria grows up with her father, who follows the front in the Dolomites as Viktor. She in combat she loses a leg, and this is where the legend begins. Celebrated as the "heroine of the Three Peaks", her story will also be taken up and exploited by National Socialist propaganda. To this day, Savs' biography is full of contradictions. Starting from historical facts, the librettist Martin Plattner tells about her life, always reconnecting her to the present and thus offering the public a sort of mirror in which to reflect. For Toteiswe mean a piece of dead glacier that detaches from the active glacier, an allusion to the amputated leg that Viktoria Savs lost in 1917 at the front, but also to her ideas, believed to be dead and actually still alive. Manuela Kerer transforms the many facets of her character into timbres that often vibrate, like Viktoria herself, between her lines. The commissioned work is a co-production between the Haydn Foundation of Bolzano and Trento, the Neue Oper Wien and the Vereinigte Bühnen Bozen.
