The American star organist showcases the Royal Festival Hall organ in its 70th anniversary year in a programme ranging across dazzlingly diverse repertoire from France, Germany, the US, Canada and the UK.

After opening with the matchless imagination of Mozart, in his Fantasy in F minor, Katelyn Emerson performs the enchanting scherzo from the Symphonie No.1 by the Canadian composer Rachel Laurin.

Then she turns to works that contrast the lavish late Romanticism of Elgar, Horatio Parker and Sigfrid Karg-Elert with the mystical and absorbing sound-world of the French organ school, exemplified by Marcel Dupré’s Symphonie II.

And to close, there’s part of the Organ Symphony No.5 by Charles-Marie Widor, one of the organ’s best-loved works.
