El elixir de amor’, ópera cómica en dos actos del compositor italiano Gaetano Donizetti, con libreto en italiano de Felice Romani, es una de las óperas del bel canto más queridas por el público y célebremente recordada por la virtuosa interpretación del aria para tenor ‘Una furtiva lágrima’. En la obra hay personajes como Adina, superficial y frívola; el sargento Belcore y el embaucador vendedor de específicos Dulcamara, que va de pueblo en pueblo engañando a todos con sus pócimas mágicas. En contraste, está la ingenuidad y sencillez de Nemorino, un joven campesino en busca del amor. Estos personajes convergen en una bella y sencilla historia de amor que transcurre en un pueblo cualquiera y que esta vez, gracias a la mirada del director de cine Sergio Cabrera, pretende convertirse en la más colombiana de las óperas italianas.

'El elíxir de amor' , by Gaetano Donizetti, is one of the most popular operas due to its history, its music, and its libretto. It tells the story of Nemorino, a young man who goes to great lengths to win over the beautiful but frivolous Adina, before she marries the vain Sergeant Belcore. Nemorino finds an apparent solution among the merchandise of Dulcamara, a wandering trickster who guarantees to have in his possession an elixir of love that is conducive to solving all his ills, of course, as long as the young man can pay the price.

This production of the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo and Ópera de Colombia is the debut of Sergio Cabrera, renowned Colombian filmmaker, as stage director of an opera. He decided to transfer the original idea of ​​the opera to pay homage to La Guajira, its people and the Wayuu culture. In its musical part, it has the participation of the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra of the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra and the direction of Manuel López-Gómez. The opera is part of the Ópera Al Parque festival of the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, a festival that celebrates 25 years of #ÓperaEnMovimiento. Likewise, the Colombian Opera Choir and its director, Luis Díaz Hérodier, are also part of this co-production.

The opera has designers and artisans from the Wayuu community, who accompany the development of art concepts applied to scenery, setting, costumes and makeup.

Thus, 'El elixir de amor' becomes the most Colombian of the Italian operas.
