The Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez will perform a concert of opera arias together with the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra. Following his father’s example, he first performed as a singer of popular and Peruvian music, then as a scholarship-holder he began his career as an opera singer in Philadelphia before moving on to Italy. Aged 49, Flórez first performed in Milan’s La Scala in 2007, where for the first time in the opera house’s 70-year history, the audience demanded an encore – the Peruvian had to repeat Donizetti’s aria Ah! mes amis. La Scala opened the door for him to the world’s greatest opera stages from Paris to the Metropolitan Opera. He has recorded a number of albums, including one of Rossini’s arias for Decca, for which he received the ECHO Klassik Award. The performance will be directed by Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv, who became the first female conductor on the stage of Wagner’s Festival Theatre in Bayreuth. Her interpretations are described as being precise, temperamental, and displaying an inspiring depth of musical understanding. Lyniv is currently chief conductor of the Graz opera and its symphony orchestra. She also acquired precious conducting experience in the role of assistant to the former conductor of the Bavarian State Opera Kirill Petrenko.
