Flamenco, bullfighting, eroticism, jealousy and deadly passion under the blazing Andalusian sun and in the middle of it all Carmen, the dazzling title character, the erotic femme fatale, the adventurer, the non-conformist outsider and anarchist freedom fighter.

The novella by the French writer Prosper Merimée about Don José, who deserted the military because of his foolish passion for an unbridled gypsy and became a smuggler and murderer, provided the subject for one of the most popular operas and its French composer Georges Bizet became famous worldwide. Although he was never in Spain, he loved exotic motifs. The music of Bizet's “Carmen” contains French esprit and Spanish passion. Because who doesn't know the immortal opera hits - the famous Habanera or the aria of Toreador Escamillo.

Carmen, directed by Tomáš Pilař, returns to the original story and discovers further layers in the individual characters - the characters are, above all, people from completely different backgrounds. It's not just about Carmen's unsteady and unbridled love, which the jealous José cannot come to terms with. It is a collision of two worlds - the orderly, respectable world of José and Micaëla, tamed by predetermined rules, and the world of gypsies and smugglers who live from one day to the next, without law and dominated by impulses of the moment. The worlds of the two main characters suddenly overlap, their differences causing tension and conflict, which leads to the complete destruction of both of them. The eternal game of passionate love and raging jealousy ends in murder.
