A deliberate misinterpretation seals Beatrice di Tenda's unfortunate fate: an intimate conversation with Orombello comes at just the right time for her heartless and faithless husband Filippo. Because he doesn't love his Beatrice and wants to get rid of her as quickly as possible, the Duke of Milan puts everything on one card - and demands her death for the adultery that didn't take place.

Beatrice, who was actually led to the scaffold at the behest of her despotic husband in the 14th century, inspired Vincenzo Bellini to write this early and unfairly forgotten work. The master of bel canto trumps here with delicate melos and captivating coloratura, which so skillfully puts the feelings of his title heroine at the center that every affect gains space and the composer's vision becomes reality: music “that expresses the word in the closest possible way”. With exquisite musical seduction and vocal virtuosity, the tragic heroine conquers the stages of Düsseldorf and Duisburg in a concert performance.
