Wagner Sjostakovitj Mendelssohn: Concert Various

The Swedish cello soloist Torleif Thedéen, who regularly visits the world's leading orchestras, presents the more rarely played second cello concerto by Shostakovich. The composer is surrounded by two German ditto; Wagner and Mendelssohn, who, although they may feel essentially different, are united here in a common theme; the so-called  Dresden amen. Dresden amen  is a sequence of six notes sung by choirs during services in the German state of Saxony since the early 19th century. The motif was first used in, and is especially associated with, the city of Dresden. The sequence has been used in various forms of composers since the 19th century and is thus found in both Wagner's Prelude to Parsifal and Mendelssohn's Reformation Symphony.
