Peer Gynt - Interview

Frustrated by his condition, Peer Gynt invents an imaginary world that allows him to escape an unbearable reality. Constantly oscillating between courage and cowardice, this anti-hero in search of dreams and identity overcomes, during a journey of initiation, the obstacles he encounters through flight and lies.

Odyssey of the Self
Written by Ibsen in 1866, Peer Gynt is a theater classic with many stagings. The strength of the epic, the mystery of the main character, the poetry of the language and of the situations, the philosophical themes, give the work an undeniable theatrical power, sublimated by the music of Grieg, performed for the first time in 1876. and inspired by Norwegian folklore. Angélique Clairand had already adapted Peer Gyntin 2009 in a compact scenic version and musical accompaniment for reduced training. The project here is quite different since it is in permanent dialogue with a text carried theatrically by a group of actors. The music is performed by the Opera Orchestra, soloists and the Maîtrise de l'Opéra. In this new staging, the question of lies is coupled with a reflection on identity. The imaginary tales are less a mythomania than an ode to fantasy and inner journey coupled with a tribute to dreamers. An odyssey of the self in the meanders of the hero's subconscious.

Frustré par sa condition, Peer Gynt invente un monde imaginaire qui lui permet d'échapper à une réalité insupportable. Oscillant sans cesse entre courage et lâcheté, cet anti-héros en quête de rêve et d'identité surmonte, au cours d'un voyage initiatique, les obstacles qu’il rencontre par la fuite et le mensonge.

Odyssée du soi
Ecrit par Ibsen en 1866, Peer Gynt est un classique du théâtre aux nombreuses mises en scène. La force de l'épopée, le mystère du personnage principal, la poésie de la langue et des situations, les thématiques philosophiques, donnent à l'œuvre une puissance théâtrale incontestable, sublimée par la musique de Grieg, jouée pour la première fois en 1876 et inspirée du folklore norvégien. Angélique Clairand avait déjà adapté Peer Gynt en 2009 dans une version scénique ramassée et un accompagnement musical pour formation réduite. Le projet est ici tout autre puisqu'en dialogue permanent avec un texte porté théâtralement par un groupe d'acteurs. La musique est, elle, interprétée par l'Orchestre de l'Opéra, des solistes et la Maîtrise de l'Opéra. Dans cette nouvelle mise en scène, la question du mensonge se double d'une réflexion sur l'identité. Les récits imaginaires y relèvent moins d'une mythomanie que d'une ode à la fantaisie et au voyage intérieur doublé d'un hommage aux rêveurs. Une odyssée du soi dans les méandres de l'inconscient du héros.
