Podróż śladem wyjątkowych postaci kobiecych rozpoczyna druga Fanfara dla niezwykłej kobiety Joan Tower. Zainspirowana Fanfarą dla zwykłego człowieka Aarona Coplanda, postanowiła stworzyć własny hołd dla „kobiet podejmujących ryzyko i żądnych przygód”. Fanfara nr 2 dedykowana jest Joan Briccetti – general manager Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. Adresatką dedykacji Fanfary nr 1 jest… Marin Alsop. Fantazja symfoniczna Francesca da Rimini Piotra Czajkowskiego zabiera nas do Dantejskiego piekła, gdzie karę odbywa tytułowa bohaterka wraz z ukochanym – ofiarą nieszczęśliwej miłości. Camille Saint-Saëns po wysłuchaniu dzieła napisał: „To niezwykły kunszt kompozytora, że czerpie się przyjemność z tego potępienia i męki”. Nie mniej tragiczna jest historia skrywającej sekret zakonnicy – bohaterki opery Siostra Angelica Giacoma Pucciniego, której ukojenie również przynosi śmierć… Po tylu intrygujących portretach warto chyba chwilę odetchnąć – najlepiej w cieniu Pinii rzymskich Ottorina Respighiego.

A journey following exceptional female characters begins with the second Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman by Joan Tower. Inspired by Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, she decided to create her own tribute to “women who take risks and are adventurous”. The second Fanfare is dedicated to Joan Briccetti – general manager of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. The addressee of the Fanfare No. 1 is… Marin Alsop. Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini symphonic fantasia transports us to Dante’s inferno, where the eponymous heroine is punished together with her lover – the victim of an unfortunate love. Having listened to the work, Camille Saint-Saëns wrote: “It is an exceptional art mastered by the composer, to make us derive pleasure from the damnation and suffering.” It is no lesser tragedy that can be found in the story of Sister Angelica, the eponymous nun hiding a secret in Giacomo Puccini’s opera, who also finds her solace in death... After so many intriguing portraits, it might be good to take some rest – preferably in the shade of Ottorino Respighi’s Pines of Rome.
