Cecilia Bartoli has been one of the leading artists in the field of classical music for over two decades and she is a proven Rossini specialist. The works of her compatriot are so close to her heart that, as artistic director of the Salzburg Whitsun Festival, she dedicated an entire festival edition to them. The long-standing connection with our house is also characterized by her Rossini interpretations: in Zurich she has already appeared as Countess Adèle in the disguise comedy Le Comte Ory , as Desdemona in Rossini's seldom performed version of Otello and in the starring role of Angelina in Cenerentola - to experience the premiere.No coloratura role in the Italian's stage work is more demanding and contradictory than that of his Cinderella, whose dignity is always able to shine through despite all the oppression by the stepsisters. What is special about the score is that it effortlessly combines humor and emotion, a farcical comedy with an emotional love story, and is therefore considered by many to be Rossini's most mature and humane composition.
