Giuseppe Verdi: The troubadour - See! The dark night spoils!

At the heart of the opera is Azucena, a gypsy woman driven by two passions: her love for her foster son and a desire for revenge against her mother’s killer. He is a controversial, tragically destined actor whose decisions may seem irrational, but Verdi says "only his speech is confused, but his mind is intact." The other female protagonist is Leonora, for whose graces two men are fighting for life and death - a simple young girl in love in the first act, a tragic heroine who sacrifices herself in the last. The two male protagonists, Count Luna and Manrico, the troubadour, are also opponents in war and love. While Count Luna is moved by blinded passion and even more jealousy, Manrico fights for his reciprocal love without guessing what a secret bond is between them.

“The black box of a society that ran aground. It is also a box in the strict and figurative sense of the word, where we exchange human values ​​for change, either for our own motives or under external coercion. The only episode snatched from the fate comes into the spotlight on stage. ” - says the director, who chose Azucena's hair braid as the central symbol of the performance. As the tragedy unfolds, Azucena is grayed in day by day, until finally the gray braid of hair grips the woman.
