When Antonio Vivaldi wrote "The Four Seasons" 300 years ago, he not only created an eternal classic of music, but also challenged the status of opera. Until then, it had been reserved for the opera stage to reproduce content. Now it is only instruments and above all violins that express the smallest natural details of spring, summer, fall and winter: This ranges from birdsong in spring to the bone-chilling frost in winter. And a classic wouldn't be a classic if even connoisseurs couldn't still find something "unheard of" in it!

Als Antonio Vivaldi vor 300 Jahren "Die Vier Jahreszeiten" schrieb, schuf er nicht nur einen ewigen Klassiker der Musik, sondern machte auch der Oper ihren Rang streitig. Bis dahin war es nämlich der Opernbühne vorbehalten, Inhalte wiederzugeben. Hier nun sind es nur Instrumente und vor allem Geigen, die die kleinsten Naturdetails von Frühling, Sommer, Herbst und Winter ausdrücken: Das reicht vom Vogelgesang im Frühjahr bis zum klirrenden Frost im Winter. Und ein Klassiker wäre kein Klassiker, wenn nicht auch Kenner darin immer noch etwas "Unerhörtes" finden würden!
